Your 4- or 5-year-old is at such a special, whirlwind stage. They’re bursting with big ideas, asking deep questions about everything, testing their independence, and showing you glimpses of the “big kid” they’re becoming. It’s exciting and a little bittersweet, but you also want to make sure they’re truly ready for kindergarten without losing the joy and playfulness of childhood.

At Hamilton Heights, our Pre-K program is designed specifically for this important bridge year. We help your child build real confidence, stronger skills, and a genuine love of learning while still honoring their need to explore, create, and have fun.

Our Approach: The Creative Curriculum®

At Hamilton Heights, we use The Creative Curriculum®, a nationally recognized, research-based program that many parents appreciate because it’s built on how children this age actually learn best. It’s fully play-based and child-centered, meaning we don’t sit kids down for formal lessons or worksheets. Instead, we create an environment where they learn through hands-on experiences that feel organic and engaging.

Your child will develop across all areas: social, emotional, physical, language, literacy, math, science, and creative expression. Our teachers intentionally set up the classroom with rich learning centers and then observe your child closely throughout the day. They note what interests your child, what skills they’re working on, and what comes easily versus what needs more support. This ongoing assessment helps teachers tailor activities to meet your child right where they are.

We’ve struck a careful balance: some teacher-guided activities to introduce new concepts, and plenty of child-led exploration so your child stays motivated and excited about learning. They’ll build, experiment, create, problem-solve, and collaborate with friends, all while developing early literacy and math foundations, emotional regulation, and the confidence to tackle challenges.

This approach ensures your child isn’t just “getting ready for kindergarten”; they’re building a real foundation for lifelong learning in a way that respects their individual pace and personality.

A Safe and Inviting Environment

Our classrooms are bright and thoughtfully set up with soft areas to rest, cozy nooks to read, and plenty of space to move and play. Everything is age-appropriate and meets the highest safety standards, both inside and on our secure playgrounds.

A Typical Day in Our Pre-K Program

Our Pre-K classrooms follow a steady, predictable rhythm that gives children a real sense of security. At the same time, there’s enough flexibility to follow what naturally sparks their interest each day. A typical day includes:

  • Large group time
  • Small group learning
  • Independent choice time
  • Outdoor play
  • Meals, snacks, and rest time

Preparing Them for Kindergarten

This is the year that sets the tone for school. Our Pre-K program focuses on the practical things that actually help children thrive in kindergarten:

  • Growing more independent and self-assured
  • Building stronger early literacy and math foundations
  • Learning to focus, listen, and handle classroom routines
  • Developing emotional skills like managing feelings and getting along with others

We don’t have formal partnerships with specific elementary schools, but we prepare children to transition successfully wherever they’re headed. Many parents tell us their kids started kindergarten feeling confident and genuinely excited about school.

Staying Connected with You

We know one of the biggest things parents want is to feel connected to their child’s day, especially at this age when they’re becoming more independent. That’s why we use a parent communication app that makes it easy to stay in the loop.

Throughout the day, your child’s teachers send photos, short observations, and little highlights, whether it’s your child proudly showing off the tower they built, a sweet moment with a friend, or something new they tried. You’ll also get regular progress updates that show how your child is growing in different areas, and we schedule sit-down parent-teacher conferences a few times a year so you can talk in depth about their development and any questions you have.

We believe strong, consistent communication is essential. You should never have to wonder what your child did all day or how they’re really doing.
